Hey David,

Thanks once again for the great master class here at San Antonio College. It was very insightful and inspiring. As a director, I really appreciated the specific comments on technique that you made to the rhythm section as well as the soloists. Rather than vague and ambiguous responses, your critiques had just the right balance of encouragement, criticism and technical advice on how to fix the error. Thanks for all your hard work. Mark Denison, San Antonio, TX.

David.......
Your song "The Minutes Seem Like Hours...." is so hilarious. I LOVE it so much I bought it on Itunes, but now I've shared it about 5 times, and I want to compensate you! (I'm a Grammy-nominated songwriter in Nashville...trying to deal with the new digital download era myself!) Tell me what I can do, please!!!
You are wonderful.

March 18, 2010

Hi, David,
I am wondering if you have a piano part that has been notated out (so a non-jazz person could play it) for The Minutes Seem Like Hours When You Sing. It's a fabulous song. I am trying to realize the chords myself from the chord chart and from listening to the recording and it is slow slogging. What is gogin to be even more difficult for me is smooothing out the voice leading because I am just putting each chord in root pos with the root in the LH and the rest in the RH. The pianist you have is s great. I don't suppose there is anything already notated that i could buy. I would be happy to pay and THRILLED not to have to figure it out myself.
Sincerely, Bev Lewis

Please come up to Portland Oregon. There's a nice jazz club (Jimmy Mak's) we'd love to see you at. I'm sure they would be happy to have you sit in on a Tues or Wed or Thurs if you are unable to bring a band of your own. I am a regular visitor to this club. www.jimmymaks.com. Mel Brown [drummer] has groups Tues-Thurs.

Hi David! Love your style. I heard your song "Every Other Day I have the Blues" on the local jazz station and it really brightened up my morning. You should have lyrics available for your fans, and if you can swing it, mp3 downloads on amazon.com. Mostly for my convenience : )

Just downloaded and listened to "I Just want to Get Paid" CD. I absolutely love your sense of HUMER!! What a treat it was not to hear love-dribble on every song.We heard you sing with Chuck Mangione a few years ago, and we dropped off our chair when you sang "Children of Sanchez".WELL DONE! On your new cd how can I get the jacket to read the liner-notes?Best Wishes,Diane Wheeler

I'm loving your CD! I bought it on Dig Station after someone turned me on to "Minutes go like hours" You don't sell your songbook, do you? I had plans to transcribe "Minutes" and then I heard many other tunes that I'd love to sing on gigs. Thanks for the clever songs! I appreciate the humor, but think "Got To Get Home So I Can See My Children" is my favorite. Beautiful.

Well, if it was possible to wear out a CD or an MP3 (on the iPod), then your tracks would be done in by now. Great project David! I hope it's doing well for you.

I just heard, "The Minutes Go Like Hours When You Sing", and as a 30 yr jazz guitarist, and songwriter of some note, had to thank you for such a brilliant job of laying the truth out there with impeccable taste and scathing humor. Beautiful job, Dave!

Dave
A pianist friend Jym, just forwarded this wonderful song. Not many songs grab my attention as this one, it is wonderfully delivered, in every way possible, the vocals, music, lyrics, all appears so simplistic, in an extrodinary way. I believe you have a hit on your hands. How brilliant, the years seem to have paid off. The Lyrics, "the minutes pass like hours when you sing," Bravo!!in life all you need is one song, I believe this is the one, Many blessings your way, Happy for you,

Sharon Lee Grace

David - It was a pleasure meeting you last week in Oakland. My son and I really enjoyed the Mangione concert. Thanks for the autograph. I thought it was pretty cool and quite a coincidence that you went to Berkeley HS. I graduated from El Cerrito in '79. I went to Cazadero for a couple summers and played with a lot of awesome BHS musicians. I am sure we must have some mutual acquaintances. We look forward to seeing and hearing you again. Aloha, Steve

hi dave.
I am a swiss jazz pianist and i got the forwarded mail with the link to your song. It's so funny because it's so true - I know this from accompanying many (semi-pro) singers - it's just the experience of many jazz trios... I will go to itunes right away and buy your cd. Go on like this and D.S.T.M. (don't swing too much).
with deep sympathy,
steve.

by the way: your photo on the milan dome is great!

I must have been living in a cave in San Diego, as I'd never heard of you. What a revelation! A friend e-mailed me one of your tunes and I instantly ordered your CD. I told Morgan Ames about it and a hip friend and neither of them had heard of you, but they both ordred your CD. I'm married to Mundell Lowe and we listened to the CD and howled in all the appropriate places. Thanks

Dear Dave,

I've been on Jazz radio KMHD 89.FM in Gresham/Portland, OR for nearly 8 years. A couple of months ago I discovered your CD, I Just Want To Get Paid, in my mail box at the station. It was in a piece of paper that was stapled together to form a jacket. The paper had the title tracks on it. I thought, where did this come from and why would someone distribute a CD in this somewhat haphazard way? Obviously they wanted me to give a listen. Which I did. Well let me tell you...I'M SO GLAD I DID!!! WOW, I love it! I immediately placed it in a jewel case with all of the info on the paper. At once it became a part of my library. For several weeks in a row I've played a track or two on my program. The songs are engaging with clever lyrics, appealing melodies and teriffic tempos. I love the way it swings! If you're scheduled to come this way, do let me know. I would like to interview you on my program. By the way, I'm on Monday evenings 6-8pm on www.kmhd.fm. My show is entitled "A Mellow Groove." Being a singer myself I SOOO appreciate what you are doing. I couldn't stop crying from laughing so hard when I heard I JUST WANT TO GET PAID.
Bought the album and are listening to it since (almost know all the lyrics :) ). Kicking arrangements, great singing and very funny and intelligent lyrics. Thank you! Will you ever perform in Austria/Europe?? Would you like to? I could make some connections for you if you wanna...
Anyway, can't wait for the next album. Keep on doing what your doing! Sincerely
Kai Peterson

Just saw Mr. Tull last night (April 17, 2009) with Chuck Mangione in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I've seen him many times with Chuck and have always been amazed at his mastery of the drums and the great vocals. At 42 years old, I'm just starting to learn the drums, so watching someone of David's caliber was a real treat last night.

JUDY, YOU LOVED THE FOOD, DAYTONA

Great performance last night with Chuck Mangione in Markham. You are a one man 5 piece percussion section and a tasty one at that. A great discovery with the bonus of your vocal talents. I'll be there in LA soon to see you soon I hope.

Your Guestbook has been hijacked by some idiots who make no reference to your music and they should be deleted from your site. They are self-promoting fools who add no value to your music.

They can't diminish your talent and brilliance but it is annoying to see these dumb comments have been added to your site.

I love your writing, your sense of humor. I sense a touch of Jack Sheldon (of course) mainly in singing style. That is good.

I will offer a suggestion, as I am want to do, more than necessary. The forming of a trio, perhaps the opportunity will be the next Rothman gig, featuring yourself, Jan Leonhart on bass and Frischberg on piano. You each do some material and who knows...the chemistry for instrumentality might work as well. I'll mention it to Joe and John as well.

Tony Gsell

February 16, 2009

Hi Dave,
First and foremost.....I am deeply saddened by the loss of Gerry and Coleman.....it still has not hit me yet. You were all so great together. I saw you in Sellersville, Pa 10/25/08, at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC 12/20/08 and in Morristown, NJ on 1/30/09. I spoke with you at the Iridium after your first show....at the stairs on my way out. Thanks for speaking to me...that was fun. Hope to hear from you....you guys are in my prayers.....Tony

I'm from St. Louis and every time I come to visit my daughter in Pasdena, I come see Sheldon at Jax's. So, I have probably seen you play with Sheldon at least a dozen or more times. I know I have spoke to you as you take a break, and I know I've told you how great your playing is--a real treat for me. You are an invaluable, dynamic, tremendous musician, and Sheldon is very fortunate to have you with him(I'm sure the feeling is mutual).
I love your vocals. Terrific and very clever lyrics. Great, great stuff!!!
Love that title "Every OTHER day I Have The blues. Joe williams would really dig, as would the Count.
Best of luck always. I'll buy
a CD from you.
sincerely,

Dave's new CD "I Just Want To Get Paid" could have easily been titled "I just Want To Listen To This Again... and Again". This CD pays big dividends with Dave's excellent songwriting, singing and drumming, with equally excellent support from Corey Allan on keyboards/ Kevin Axt on acousic bass and some of LA's finest horn players. Word to the wise... CHECK THIS OUT!
